Goal Directions

Learn About Point Cards
              You can get points by volunteering, winning a challenge, or for good behavior
              Which ever group at the end of the day has the best behavior gets a stamp on their card
              Once your card has 10 points you can get a present from Katie

Learn the Names of important places in town
              Hospital, Police Station, Grocery Store, School, Train Station….

Learn how to give and receive directions

Have the students practice the directions as a class by giving directions on the board, put the flash cards on the board, and then have students give directions by telling your chalk where to go.

Scavenger hunt
I will break the class into 6 Teams.
Using the names of the different rooms, the students must do a Scavenger hunt
I will give each of the different groups a worksheet that they must fill out.
To complete the worksheet they must quietly go around the school and find the secret letters I have put on the walls and doors of the rooms.
Once they find the secret room they must write down the secret letter in the box, once they have all the letters they must turn it in.
Everyone must be back before the end of class even if they do not finish their sheets.

Play the zombie game with the Halloween vocabulary. The student who is the best zombie(acts like a brainless zombie) gets a stamp.

Students will come up and pick the coloring page they want.

They must respond in English by saying I want a ______. Once the student has their paper they must color it in, the pictures will be hung around the classroom as decoration for the Halloween party.

Go through the alphabet. For the difficult letters we will practice listening. I will have students face the direction of the letter they think I say, We will practice all the difficult letters like this.

Go Fish
Each group will be given a deck of cards. Each student will get 5 cards.
The player 1 will pick another player and point at them (Player 2). Player 2 will ask What do you want?  The first player will say I want ____ ( ß Letter) if the other player has the card they will give the first player the card, if the other player does not have the card they will say Go Fish, and the first player has to draw a card from the pile.
If a student has 3 of the same letter in their hand they put the cards back into the pile and shuffle it.
The first person to have 0 cards in their hand is the winner.

Go Fish(ババ抜きのようなゲーム)
各グループにカードを渡し、各自に5枚ずつ配ります。
残りのカードは、裏にして真ん中に山にしておきます。
最初のプレイヤーは(Player 1)、他のプレイヤーを1人指名します。(Player 2)
Player 2 What do you want?と質問します。Player 1は、 I want ____ ( ßアルファベット). と欲しいカードを言います。もしPlayer 2 がそのカードを持っていれば、Player 1に渡します。もし持っていなければ、Player 2 は「Go Fish!」と言いいPlayer 1は真ん中の山からカードを1枚引かなければなりません。
このようにしてゲームを続け、3枚同じカードがそろったPlayerは、カードを山に戻しシャッフルします。
カードが全部なくなったPlayerが勝ちとなります。

Goal: Left, Right, Go Straight
No Pencils, No Books

Review Alphabet
Review the alphabet, Make sure the students remember their letters

Play Card Snatch game
I will divide the class into 6 teams.
Each team will be given a set of cards to spread right side up on the floor.
I will call out a letter, students must find the letter and grab it, (there will be 3 of each letter per group) I will continue calling letters until there are none left.
At the end of the game students will count how many cards they have, the student with the most cards is the winner for each group.

Teach the Students
Turn Left, Turn Right, Go Straight

Marching Game
All the students will stand in a grid, They must listen to the directions I give.
If I say “Go straight” they must go 1 step forward (but they must stay in line or they will kicked out). If I say “turn left”, they must turn their body to the left (but not move from their spot). If I say “turn right”, they must turn their body to the right (but not move from their spot).
If the students here me say “Lines”, they must form straight lines, which I will inspect.

Teach students Have a nice day
This phrase is very important in English, and will now be used instead of See You at the end of a class.

Remember the emotions-Have students do gestures.

Use flash cards to review the Alphabet.
Remember the difficult letters B,V,F,R,L,G,Z,J

Which sound is it game
I will have 2 letters, one is on the left side of the board, one is on the right side of the board. Students must run to the side of the classroom with the letter I say.
Example
R on the right side of the room, L on the left side of the room.
If I say L, any student on the left side of the room is correct.

Bingo
I will pass out Bingo cards, each card will have 16 letters on it, I will call out a letter, if the student has that letter on their paper they will cross it out. When a student gets 4 in a row, they call out “bingo”. If a student gets all of their tiles filled in they are the winner, and can get a special prize.

Remind students to say “Have a nice day” when they leave.

              Have student volunteers do self introductions (We will try to have as many students as possible go, I hope that every student volunteers)

              I will bring in large alphabet cards, we will review the letters, (We will spend extra time on letters that are difficult for students to say B,V,F,R,L,G,Z)

Year 5- Review Game!

I made huge dice (about a foot on each edge)

Tornado game
The goal is to build as many houses as possible tornados will blow your house away, and your team will have to start over ( a house is a pentagon, and each correct answer gets 1 side of the pentagon).
I will have a dice with 5 topics (Introductions, Emotions, Numbers, Foods, Sports) and one side with a tornado on it.
One member of their team will come up and roll the die if they roll, foods, or sports, I will show them a card from that topic, and they must form a sentence (example: I like Baseball or Do you like football?), They will have 30 seconds to talk to their team, and then they must say the sentence aloud.
If they roll a die and it lands on an emotion, I will ask How are you?, then show them a flashcard, They must say I’m _____(ß Emotion on flashcard).
If they roll numbers, I will say a number out loud, and they must write the number on the board . If they roll introductions, they must say Hello, My name is _____ I like_____
If they roll a tornado I will ask them a question, (Do you like soccer? How many fingers do you have? What is your name?) They have 30 seconds to talk to their team and answer the question. If their team gets it right they get to send the tornado to another team, and blow down their house. If the first team gets it wrong, the tornado will blow down their house and they will have to start over.
After a team gets 1 full house, that house takes two blows from a tornado to get knocked down.

Kitty in the Corner (Reviews: What do you like?  I don’t like _____”)
I will put a flash card in each corner of the room. The students must choose which corner they want to go to. Once all the students are in their chosen corners, I will draw a card out of a hat. The students must all ask together “What do you like?” I will say “I don’t like _____”. All the students in the corner I have chosen must sit down, they are out. Students must change corners, I will then draw another card, and the students in that corner will be out. The game will continue until there is a champion.

Art Critic (Reviews: vocabulary)
5 students will be chosen to be judges, they will go to the back of the class, they must face the back wall. They are not allowed to know who the artists are.
3 artists will be chosen, their identity must remain a secret. They will each be given space on the chalkboard to draw. I will tell them what to draw, and then start the timer, they only get 10 seconds to draw. When the time is up all the artists must go sit back down, the judges will then be given 10 seconds to choose their favorite drawing. When they have chosen, They will say “I like #”. The student of the chosen picture is the winner, they get to wear the winner hat, and choose 4 people to be the judge with them (2 girls 2 boys). Many rounds can be played.

              When they are done with the dialog they should shake hands.
              Students must think of something new each time.
Snowman game.
Everyone gets one card. If your card has a happy face, you are a person. If your card has a snow flake on it, you are a freezer. And have a dialog with everyone; you must alternate between introducing yourself to a boy, and then a girl. The freezer will sometimes when shaking hands tap the hands of the classmates. But the freezer can’t be seen otherwise they’ll be caught. The freezers win if they can freeze all the students before they get caught. Any one can win by introducing themselves to everyone in the class. The students win by catching the freezer.

They check off green giraffe on their bingo cards, and then find a new partner.
The first student to get 6 in a row is the winner,
The student with the most checks is also a winner

Build a train
              While the music is going Students must walk around, when the music stops they have to find the nearest person and do Rock, Scissors, Paper. The loser asks Can I help you? The winner says Yes Please. The loser then grabs on to the shoulders of the winner, and joins their train. The trains now go around while the music is playing, when the music stops the leaders of the trains must match up and do Rock, Scissors, Paper, the winner loser train asks, Can I help you? The Winner train says Yes please and the loser train joins onto the winner train.
The game continues until the entire class has made one big train.

Gestures.
Using the vocabulary we have learned in Unit 3 we will play charades.
The students will divide into 3 teams.
One student will act out one of the cards, the students on that persons team must try to guess what that person is acting out. To guess the student must raise their hand and ask Can you _____?
              If the student is right they say
              Yes, I can
              If the student is wrong they say
              No, I can’t
Students will get points for their teams if the guess correctly. If the team shouts out the answer, or speaks in Japanese they get -1 point.

We will review the vocabulary we learned in Unit 4 to learn the phrase What do you like?

After the students are confident having a simple dialog of.
              What do you like?
                            I like _______
I will give out the work sheets.
              Students should be encouraged to be honest and keep their answers a secret.
              Students must circle the things they like, and x the ones they don’t like
              Students will only be allowed 5 minutes.

Who’s who?
We will begin to read the cards of students.
              I will go through and say things the student likes and dislikes. If a student is the same then they remain standing, if they are different they sit down. We will keep going until the mystery student is revealed.

Students will each be given a card, they are not allowed to look at it. They must place the card on their forehead so that everyone else can see it. The goal is to figure out what you can do.

Once a student figures out what they can do they must sit at their desk.
Once most of the students figure out what the can do We will go around and see what their guesses are.

              Make sure students understand when to say play, and when to skip it.

                            “can” must be followed by a verb
                            So for dance, swim, sing, run…. They should not say play first
                            For games (soccer, baseball, volleyball, …) and instruments (Piano, clarinet, violin…) they must say play first because games and instruments are nouns.

Materials Needed:
  • Vocabulary flashcards

Detailed Explanation:
  1. After practicing some vocabulary, demonstrate the game with the teacher.
  2. Put 3-4 of the vocabulary flashcards on the board and give students 10 seconds to decide on their favorite one.
  3. The point of the game is for students to walk around like zombies, find a partner and have a janken battle.
    • A: "I can swim."
    • B: "I can cook."         *Janken* (B wins)
    • A: "I can cook too."      Students will need to add "too" at the end of the sentence.
  4. The janken loser has been `bitten` by the winner. The loser`s favorite vocabulary becomes the same as the winner`s and they try to infect other zombies.
    • A: "I can cook."
    • C: "I can swim."            *Janken* (A wins)
    • C: "I can cook too."      Students will need to add "too" at the end of the sentence.
  5. If both zombies like the same thing they don`t play janken.
