Year 6: Unit 1 Part 1

Year 6
Unit 1 Part 1

Do you have a …?

Warm up and review.
Go through vocabulary flash cards that they will be using for the go fish game. Make sure they have it down. (Example Bear, Tiger, Giraffe, Panda, Monkey)

Go Fish Game
Have enough flash cards so that each student has 5 cards. Tell the students that they are to go around the room, they should Janken(Rock, Scissors, Paper) to see who goes first. The student that wins Janken asks the other student “Do you have a …?” if the second student does have the card the other student replies “Yes, I do.” and gives the other student the card. If the student does not have the card they say. “No, I don’t.”
The person with the most pairs at the end is the winner.
When the game is over a work sheet should be handed out to students. The students should write Yes I do. or No, I don’t. and the number at the side of the page. At the top of the form there should be a line for names. Students should be encouraged to write their name in roman characters with the first letters capitalized.

Find your team
Hand out one animal to each person. They should be given at random. Each student must ask the other students. “Do you have a ____?” ( they ask if the other student has the same card as them). The other student then answers “Yes, I do.” or “No, I don`t” If they both have the same card they are on the same team.

Shy Moony (Hangman relabeled)
Students as if there is a certain letter on the board if there isn’t part of moony disappears. If there is, moony stays. If the students can guess the word before all of moony disappears, they win, and moony comes back.

Cool Down
Review “Do you have a ___?” grammar, using animal flash cards.
