Year 5: Unit 2 Part 1

Quick review of introductions
Katie: Hello
Students: Hello
Katie: My name is Katie
Students: My name is ______
Katie: Nice to meet you.
Students: Nice to meet you too.

Skit with Teacher
K: Hello
T: Hello
K: How are you?
T: I’m good. Thank you. And you?
K: I’m good.

Echo Time!
Have the whole class do the Dialog with me.
K: Hello
Students: Hello
K: How are you?
T: I’m good. Thank you. And you?
K: I’m good.

Hello Song
Sing the Hello Song with the Students (Suprisingly Effective!)

Each student should now practice with 3 students.

Emotion Flash Cards
Good
Angry
Tired
Happy
Hungry
Sad
Sick
Add actions to reinforce learning.
Once the students know the flash cards
I say “How are you?”
The reply with “I’m _____” ß (word on flash card)

Cake Game!
Split the class into two teams: Team “happy face” and Team “star”
I pick one card and make it the secret card.
Team “star” asks team “happy face”
              “How are you?”
Team “happy face agrees on an answer and says
              “I’m ____” ß (guess)
If they are right they go up a step
If they are wrong, they stay put. And then team “happy face” asks team “star”
              “How are you?”
 Teams Keep alternating untill the secret card is guessed
The first team to  “eat the cake” wins
